BMC Teammachine SLR01 TWO Disc Road Bike

The high-performance combination of a lightweight carbon frame from BMC and Shimano’s range-topping electronic Dura-Ace groupset makes the Teammachine SLR01 TWO Disc Road Bike Bike an enticing prospect for keen riders.

The Tuned Compliance Concept Race offers a balanced carbon layup that is slightly more compliant than the TCC Speed frames, and has been developed for long days and big mountains such as might be encountered on a Grand Tour stage. 

There are plenty of aerodynamic touches too, so the bike is still plenty quick enough at speed, with the Accelerated Composites Evolution Technology+ (ACE+) now also taking drag into account along with stiffness, weight and compliance. Aerocore bottle cages that integrate the cage and bottle into the airflow over the downtube, stealth cable routing, aero fork blades and a D-shaped seat tube all further smooth the passage of air over the bike. Efficient power transfer comes courtesy of the oversized bottom bracket and carbon layup, creating a hugely stiff and effective way of getting all pedal pressure to the rear axle. 

A one-piece full carbon cockpit reduces drag and allows the stiffness and compliance to be precisely balanced to achieve an accurate, confidence-inspiring set-up that provides excellent control whilst still being comfortable across a variety of road surfaces. The lightweight carbon seatpost is D-shaped to ensure better absorption of vibrations and small bumps, leading to less muscle fatigue and tiredness.

A high-performance all-rounder, DT Swiss’ ARC 1100 DICUT 50mm wheels are light enough for climbing, deep enough to sustain high speeds and the blunt profile also means that they behave predictably if caught in crosswinds. The premium 180 DICUT hubs feature SINC ceramic bearings for reduced friction and increases longevity whilst the Ratchet EXP freehub provides extremely quick engagement when accelerating out of a corner or up a climb. Pirelli’s race-ready P ZERO RACE TLR SL tyres are tubeless-ready for more grip, fewer punctures and a faster, more supple feel.

The icing on the cake is Shimano’s 12-speed Dura-Ace Di2 groupset. It is semi-wireless, so there are no cables to the shifters, but the two derailleurs and the one battery are linked together within the frame for quicker communication and greater battery life. The system can also communicate via Bluetooth with devices such as a smartphone or GPS, giving access to more data and ride metrics as well as offering some customisation options. Servo Wave technology from their mountain bike range gives the Shimano Dura-Ace hydraulic disc brakes more power, easier modulation and increased pad clearance.
